Community Integration Meeting

Each month, the City of Reno hosts a Community Integration meeting at the Northeast Community Center on Valley Road. The purpose of the meeting is for like minded folks in the disability community to get together and talk about their current needs (we have some strategies for getting those met).

We also discuss how we can be a part of the process to help policy makers in state government and the Legislature understand that our country has recognized the value of it's citizen's who have disabilities, and it is time for Nevada to amend some laws and follow suit.

Many of us are involved in a long term care review process.  But, that happens during the day when most folks work.  So, we want to provide this opportunity for everyone to have a say and be involved anyway they can.

We will bring you up to speed on the latest trainings and happenings in the process and talk about your individual needs. We want to be sure that families and people who need more, or different services can get involved in this process.

Nevada currently spends 79% of it's long term care dollars on institutional placements. We only spend 21% on home or community based supports that allow people to remain in and be a part of their communities.

If we do not let our policy makers understand that we have a right to be at the table in making such important decisions that affect our lives, we will not likely see the change most of us recognize needs to occur.

We are a very informal group.  Bring something to drink or snacks if you want. Bring a pencil and paper. We want to figure out what the gaps are, and how we can be heard in the current redesign of our state support systems. The next meeting is Feb. 20th at 6:3a0 PM.
